Reaction Steps

To a solution of 3-methyl-1-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one (97 mg) in acetic anhydride (1.2 mL) was added fuming nitric acid (45 μL) under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred under ice-cooling for 1.5 hr. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water, and the mixture was neutralized with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (53 mg).
