Reaction Steps

To a mixture of 4-((benzyloxy)methyl)-3,3-dimethyl-1-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one (459 mg) and acetic anhydride (3.0 mL) was added fuming nitric acid (0.12 mL) under ice-cooling. The reaction mixture was stirred under ice-cooling for 1 hr, water was added thereto, and the mixture was neutralized with 8M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (343 mg).
