Reaction Steps

To a stirred solution of compound (4) (5.25 g, 23.1 mmol) and imidazole (3.85 g, 57.8 mmol) in dry DMF (70 mL) was added TBDMSCl (4.19 g, 27.7 mmol). After 16 hr, further aliquots of imidazole (1.93 g, 28.9 mmol) and TBDMSCl (2.10 g, 13.9 mmol) were added and the mixture stirred for 4 hr. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (200 mL) and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with water (200 mL) and heptane (300 mL) to afford the title compound (5) (7.31 g, 93%) as a brown solid: m/z 344 (M+H)+ (ES+).
