4-phenyl-1H-isochromene-3-carbaldehyde (Intermediate G21, 410 mg, 1.735 mmol) suspended in MeOH (1 ml) was added dropwise to a solution of sodium tetrahydroborate (65.7 mg, 1.735 mmol) in MeOH (17.3 ml) at RT. The mixture was partitioned between AcOEt/NH4Cl 5% (2 ml/2 ml), the organic phase was separated, anhydrified over Na2SO4 and evaporated in vacuo to give a crude that underwent next step without any further purification.
