Procedure
In a 100 ml flask equipped with a stirrer, a condenser and a calcium chloride dryer tube were charged 4.2 g of N-octadecylthiazolium bromide synthesized in Synthetic example 32 and 10.0 g of methanol, and then, 2.1 g of sodium perchlorate was added to the mixture. After the addition, the mixture was refluxed for 30 minutes. After cooling the reaction mixture to room temperature, precipitated crystals were collected by filtration under reduced pressure. The resulting crystals were washed with acetone to obtain 3.1 g of the title compound. Melting point: 91° C.
