A mixture of 3-amino-2-cyclopenten-1-one (Kikani, B. B., Synthesis, (1991), 2, 176) (0.78 g, 8 mmol), 3-chloro-4-fluorobenzaldehyde (1.12 g, 8 mmol), and N-benzylpiperidine-3,5-dione (Ziegler, J. Amer. Chem. Soc. (1973), 95, 7458-7464) (1.78 g, 8 mmol) in ethanol (8 mL) was processed in Example 5A to provide 1.8 of the title compound.
