To a stirring solution of 1.16 g (5.45 mmol) of 6-chloro-2-(methylthio)-N-(prop-2-ynyl)pyrimidine-4-amine (intermediate 27) in 6 ml of DCM, 1.07 g (6.0 mmol) of N-bromosuccinimide were added, and stirring was continued for 4 hours at room temperature to give 5-bromo-6-chloro-2-(methylthio)-N-(prop-2-ynyl)pyrimidine-4-amine, which was used without further purification in the next step (see intermediate 31). The completion of the reaction is monitored by thin layer chromatography.
