Procedure
To a solution of 2-amino-3-benzyloxy-N-(3-hydroxypropyl)aniline (100 mg) in chloroform (2 ml) was added 1,1′-thiocarbonyldiimidazole (72.7 mg) at ambient temperature, and the mixture was stirred for 2 hours at the same temperature and refluxed for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was washed with water and brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo. The residue was purified by preparative thin layer chromatography (chloroform:methanol=10:1, v/v) to give 4-benzyloxy-1-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzimidazole (75 mg).
