3.5 g (0.01 mol) of 1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-7-(piperazin-1-yl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid are heated under reflux with 4 g of benzyl acrylate for 5 hours. The hot solution is filtered, and the precipitate which separates out is filtered off under suction, washed with ethanol and dried. 2.3 g of 7-[4-(2-benzyloxycarbonyl-ethyl)-piperazin-1-yl]-1-cyclopropyl-6,8-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid having a decomposition temperature of 132°-135° C. are obtained.
