A mixture of 2 g (9 mmol) 5-piperidin-1-yl-pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester and 1.69 g (9.4 mmol) N-bromosuccinimid in 30 mL CHCl3 was heated to 60° C. for 16 h. The mixture was concentrated and purified by flash column chromatography on silica eluting with a gradient formed from ethyl acetate and heptane to yield after evaporation of the product fractions 1.43 g (53%) of the title compound as white solid. m/z (ES+): 300.2 (M+H).
