Dichloromethane (4 mL) was added to a vial containing (4-ethyl-5-pyridin-4-yl-4H-[1,2,4]triazol-3-yl)-methanol (56.7 mg, 0.279 mmol) and manganese dioxide (364.3 mg, 4.19 mmol) was added. The vial was sealed and the reaction was allowed to stir for two hours. The reaction was filtered through celite and concentrated to yield the title compound. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ (ppm): 10.21 (s, 1H), 8.88 (d, 2H), 7.63 (d, 2H), 4.45 (q, 2H), 1.48 (t, 3H).
