A mixture of ethyl 4-[1-(2-tert-butoxy-2-oxoethyl)-4-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-3-yl]butanoate from Step C (1.10 g, 2.80 mmol) and 10% Pd/C (150 mg) in EtOH (50 mL) was stirred under an atmosphere of hydrogen (ca. 1 atm). After 18 h, the reaction was filtered through a Celite pad and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound. MS: m/z=363 (M+1).
