A mixture of 5-amino-3-(4-phenoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (28 mg, 0.1 mmol), 2-bromomalonaldehyde (15 mg, 0.1 mmol) in EtOH (5 mL) was stirred at RT for 2 hr. Then, the mixture was filtered to give the crude product (20 mg, 62.9%) as a yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 9.89 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 8.95 (d, J=2.0 Hz, 1H), 8.08 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.52-7.43 (m, 2H), 7.27-7.19 (m, 3H), 7.15 (d, J=7.6 Hz, 2H). MS (ESI, m/e) [M+1]+ 391.9.
