The product from step iv) (0.106 g) was dissolved in dichloromethane (1.5 mL) and cooled to 0° C. Hydrobromic acid in acetic acid (33%, 0.6 mL) was added dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred for 2 h then concentrated and azeotroped with toluene (×3) and methanol (×3). The crude material was purified by reverse phase HPLC (75-5% of 0.2% aqueous TFA in acetonitrile) to afford the product as a white solid (0.027 g).
