To a solution of 1,1-dimethylethyl 7-[(2-fluoro-4-nitrophenyl)oxy]-1,2,4,5-tetrahydro-3H-3-benzazepine-3-carboxylate (E274, Step 1) (1.37 g, 3.40 mmol) in ethanol (25 ml) was added palladium on charcoal (10 wt % palladium) (300 mg) and the reaction was stirred at room temperature under hydrogen (1 atmosphere) for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound. MS (ES+) m/e 273 [M−M−COOtBu]+.
