A mixture of 1-(4-Iodo-1H-pyrrole-2-yl)-propan-1-one (3.8 g, 15.3 mmol), 2-Iodo-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (3.83 g, 18.3 mmol) and Cs2CO3 (5.96 g, 183 mmol) in 20 ml DMF is heated with stirring to 60° C. for until the reaction is finished (TLC). The mixture then is cooled to room temperature and partitioned between water (200 ml) and ether (100 ml), the ether phase is separated and dried with MgSO4. The product is purified by flash chromatography with solvent EtOAc/hexane (10/90) to afford the product as an oil which solidified upon standing 1.8 g (35%). 1HNMR (DMSO-d6): δ (ppm) 1.00 (t, 3H), 2.79 (q, 2H), 5.29 (q, 2H), 7.36 (s, 1H), 7.39 (s, 1H).
