Reaction Steps

3-Amino-6-cyano-N-methylpyrazine-2-carboxamide (839 mg, 4.7 mmol) was suspended in ethanol (25 mL) followed by addition of 50% aqueous hydroxylamine (2 mL, 31.3 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour. The suspension obtained was diluted with water (2 5mL) and the insoluble solid collected by filtration and washed with water. The solid was dried in vacuo to give 3-amino-6-[(hydroxyamino)(imino)methyl]-N-methylpyrazine-2-carboxamide (664 mg, 67% yield) as a white solid: MS (EI) for C7H10N6O2: 211 (MH+).
