A mixture of 16.4 g of 2A and 17.6 g of 3-trifluoromethylphenylhydrazine were stirred and heated to 60° C. Dimethylamine was evolved in an exothermic reaction and the temperature maintained at 90° C. until evolution ceased (about 30 minutes). After cooling, the reaction mixture was dissolved in ether, washed with water, dried and chromatographically purified to yield 1-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazole (2B).
