Procedure
To ethyl 2-(5-trichloromethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetate (syn isomer) (3.4 g) was added liquid ammonia (17 ml). After giving homogenous solution, it was poured into the petri dish, followed by removing liquid ammonia by ventilation. To the residue were added water and ethyl acetate, and the separated ethyl acetate solution was washed with an aqueous sodium chloride and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Removal of the solvent gave a residue, which was washed with diisopropyl ether to obtain ethyl 2-(5-amino-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetate (syn isomer) (1.75 g), mp 143°-146° C.
