Reaction Steps
A solution of 5 gm (22.1 m mol) of 4-ethoxycarbonylphenylacetyl chloride in 20 ml of chloroform was added dropwise, under cooling with ice, to a solution of 6.02 gm (20 m mol) of α-(4-chloro-phenyl)-2-piperidino-benzylamine and 3.5 ml (25 m mol) of triethylamine in 50 ml of chloroform. The mixture was stirred for two hours at ambient temperature, added to water, and extracted with chloroform. The extracts were dried and concentrated by evaporation. The evaporation residue was chromatographed on silica gel by use of toluene/ethyl acetate (5:1) as eluant.
