Reaction Steps
A solution of N-(2,2-dimethoxyethyl)-3,4-dimethoxyphenylacetamide (600.6 g) in concentrated hydrochloric acid (3 liters) is mixed with acetic acid (3 liters). After standing for 17 hours at ambient temperature the mixture is poured onto ice. The precipitated crystals are suction filtered, washed with water until neutral and dried.
