Reaction Steps

2-Amino-4-cyano-6-methylpyrimidine, 0.2 g, was mixed with 2-carbomethoxybenzenesulfonyl isocyanate, 0.7 g, in 8 ml of dry methylene chloride. After five minutes a thick precipitate formed and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate stripped to give 0.3 g of the title compound as a solid, m.p. 208°-213° C. (dec). NMR (CF3CO2D): δ2.95 (s, 3H), 4.05 (s, 3H), 7.85 (s, 1H), 7.88-8.15 (m), 8.25-8.65 (m).
