A mixture consisting of 80 ml of n-butylamine, 10 ml of water and 0.1 ml (21.4 g) of 4,5-dinitro-2-methoxyphenol, prepared in Example 2, is heated under reflux. After 4 hours' heating, the reaction mixture is diluted with 800 g of ice-cold water; the expected product precipitates. After being drained and dried, it is taken up in 300 ml of dilute caustic soda and precipitated by adding acetic acid.
