Ethyl (1RS,2RS,3SR)-1-(4Methoxyphenyl)-3-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)indane-2-carboxylate. To a solution of ethyl (RS)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(3,4methylenedioxyphenyl)-indene-2-carboxylate (0.72 g, 1.7 mmol) in EtOH (30 ml) was added 10% palladium on activated carbon (1 g). The resulting suspension was stirred under an atmosphere of H2 for 56 h and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound as a yellow solid (0.70 g, 95%), which was used without further purification.
