0.2 g (0.4 mmol) of (S,E)-N-(a-ethylbenzyl)-3-[2-(3-methoxycarbonylpropenoyl) aminoethoxy]-2-phenylquinoline-4-carboxamide (compound of Example 18) were dissolved in 25 ml of 10% NaOH and 5 ml of 1,4-dioxane and warmed to 60° C. for 15 minutes. After cooling, the reaction mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2 and washed with 10% citric acid and sat. sol. NaCl. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, evaporated in vacuo to dryness and triturated with i-Pr2O to yield 83 mg of the title compound.
