A mixture of the title C compound, (2R)-(4-phenyloxybenzenesulfonylamino)-4-morpholin-4-yl-4-oxobutyric acid benzyl ester (430 mg, 0.82 mmol) and 10% Pd on carbon (100 mg) in 10 mL of EtOAc is stirred under hydrogen (H2) atmosphere (1 atm) for 2 h. The catalyst is removed by vacuum filtration though celite, and the filtrate is concentrated to afford 330 mg (100%) of (2R)-(4-phenyloxybenzenesulfonylamino)-4-morpholin-4-yl-4-oxobutyric acid as a white solid: m.p. 147-149° C.; ESI-MS 433 (M−−1).
