Reaction Steps

A clay/phosphate/cerium nitrate, vanadium oxalate slurry was prepared by adding 1340 grams of Theile RC-320 kaolin clay slurry to 1795 milliliters of water in a high speed mixer. To this mixture, 192 grams of phosphoric acid was added. Thereafter, 431 grams of cerium nitrate solution and 232 grams of vanadium oxalate solution were added to the slurry. The slurry was then spray dried and then resulting particles were calcined at 650° C. for 30 minutes in a muffle furnace. The calcined particles were then mixed with magnesium oxide in a 50/50 weight percent ratio and analyzed by TGA tests. These tests indicated that the resulting material produced an SOx absorption of 0.27% per minute.
