Reaction Steps
To a stirred solution of methyl (N-benzyl-N-methylsulfamoyl)acetate (from step (a), 3.9 g, 15.2 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 ml) at ambient temperature was added aqueous ammonia (10 ml, s.g.=0.88) in one portion. The orange solution was then stirred at ambient temperature for 18 hr, before being poured into water (50 ml) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×25 ml). The organic extract was evaporated in vacuo to give the subtitle compound (2.8 g, 76%) as a white solid. m.p. 124-127° C.
