Procedure

A solution of 0.211 g of (E)-N-(3,5-dibenzyl-hexahydro-2,4,6-trioxo-1,3,5-triazin-1-yl)-2(R)-[1(S)-(benzyloxycarbamoyl)-4-phenyl-3-butenyl]-4-methylvaleramide in 10 ml of methanol was hydrogenated in the presence of 0.020 g of 10% palladium-on-carbon for 6 hours. Filtration and evaporation of the filtrate gave a residue which was triturated with diethyl ether to give 0.009 g of N-(3,5-dibenzylhexahydro-2,4,6-trioxo-1,3,5-triazin-1-yl)-2(R)-[1(S)-(hydroxycarbamoyl)-4-phenylbutyl]-4-methylvaleramide in the form of a white solid.
