A mixture of trans-4-(3-chloropropyl)-7-methoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,5-benzoxathiepin-3-ol(0.1 g) and N-phenylpiperazine (0.2 g) is stirred at 90° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is purified by silica gel column chromatography eluting with n-hexane-ethyl acetate methanol (10:10:1) and treated, with ethanolic hydrogen chloride to give trans-7-methoxy-4-[3-(4-phenylpiperazine-1-yl)propyl]-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,5-benzoxathiepin-3-ol dihydrochloride as an amorphous powder.
