Procedure
A solid mixture of 7.1 g of 7-chloro-3-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-6-methoxy-1,2-benzisoxazole and 27.8 g of pyridine HCl is heated at 200° C. for one hour and the mixture poured into vigorously stirred ice water to precipitate a product. The product is filtered and dried giving 7-chloro-3-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-6-hydroxy-1,2-benzisoxazole which is recrystallized from toluene, mp 186°-190° C.
