A suspension of 10 g of 5-chloro-4-(pyridin-3-yl)-thiazol-2-amine (obtained in Example 1b) in 50 ml of butyronitrile was heated at reflux for 2 h with 10 ml of iodomethane. After cooling down of the mixture, the resulting solid was filtered off and recrystallized from methanol to give 13,3 g of 3-(2-amino-5-chlorothiazol-4-yl)-1-methylpyridinium iodide.
