To a stirred solution of 1-(3-imino-2-oxopropyl)-3-pyridin-2-yl-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimidazol-2-one from Step A (54 mg, 0.19 mmol) in acetone (2 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of dimethyldioxirane (0.02 M in acetone, 9.6 mL, 0.19 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred for 90 min then concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound in sufficient purity for use in the next step.
