To a solution of [3-chloro-5-(2-hydroxymethyl-4-nitro-phenoxy)-phenyl]-acetic acid methyl ester (2.4 g, 6.8 mmol) in DME (20 mL) was added phosphorus tribromide (0.97 mL, 10.2 mmol), and the reaction was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. After work-up with EtOAc and H2O, the crude material was purified by silica gel chromatography to give the title compound.
