A mixture of (R)-6-benzyl-N-(1-(6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl)ethyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-4-amine (3.55 g, 8.59 mmol), 10% palladium on charcoal (740 mg), and methanol (60 mL) were stirred under hydrogen (1 atm) for 15 h. The catalyst was filtered off through Celite and the filter cake was washed with MeOH (3×30 mL). The filtrate was concentrated to obtain an off-white foam (2.74 g, 98% yield).
