Reaction Steps
9.75 g (2.5 molar equivalents) of the metformin free-base was stirred in a mixed solution of 112.5 ml of acetone and 5 ml of water at 40° C., and a solution of 3.98 g (1 molar equivalent) of glutaric acid in acetone-water was added dropwise thereto and stirred at 10° C. The produced crystal was filtered and dried in hot air, thus obtaining 11.24 g (yield: 95.3%) of metformin glutarate.
