Procedure

N-(1-Hexyl-2-oxo-1,2 dihydropyrimidinyl)-acetamide (B) (0.100 g, 0.400 mmol) was dissolved in a 7 N solution of ammonia in MeOH (15 ml). The solution was stirred at room temperature in a sealed tube for 48 h. The solvents were removed under vacuo to afford a crude solid. Purification using flash silica chromatography (CHCl3/MeOH, 7:1) afforded 4-Amino-1-hexyl-1H-pyrimidin-2-one (C) as a colourless solid (0.052 g, 63%).
