Methyl 4-(N-(3-fluorobenzyl)-N-(4-methoxybenzyl)sulfamoyl)benzoate (500 mg, 1.12 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH/THF (1:1, 40 mL) and treated with a solution of aqueous NaOH (10 N, 8 ml). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature overnight, then MeOH and THF were removed by rotary evaporation. The resulting aqueous solution was washed with EtOAc (10 mL) and acidified with 6 N aq HCl (˜15 mL) to pH˜4. The aqueous solution was extracted with EtOAc (3×, 40 mL) and the combined organic layers were washed with water, brine, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The crude product was purified by recrystallization from EtOH to afford the title compound 4-(N-(3-fluorobenzyl)-N-(4-methoxybenzyl)sulfamoyl)benzoic acid as a white crystalline solid (150 mg) in 30% yield.
