A solution of the product of Example II (2.0 g, 0.008 m) and KOH (2.0 g, 0.036 m) in MeOH (20 ml) and H2O (20 ml) was refluxed for 1 hr. The methanol was removed under vacuum and the resulting aqueous solution was acidified with HCl (10% aqueous). When the solution became acidic, a white solid formed. It was filtered and washed well with H2O and dried, to yield 1.23 g of crude product. Crystallization from MeOH afforded the product as an off-white solid; m.p. 323°-325° C.
