LiAlH4 (2.88 g, 0.076 m) was slurried in ether (250 ml) and to this was added a solution of the product of Example XXXV (5.5 g, 0.019 m) in ether (100 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1/2 hr. To the reaction mixture was added dropwise and successively H2O (3.0 ml), NaOH (3.0 ml of 15% aqueous), and H2O (9.0 ml). The resulting precipitate was filtered and washed with ether. The solvent was removed in vacuo from the filtrate and the residue crystallized from pentane to yield the desired product as a pale yellow solid; m.p. 77°-78° C.
