After adding 5 g of sodium methylate, a solution of 183 g (1 mol) of cis-4-acetyl-2-oxa-4-aza-bicyclo[4.3.0]nonan-3-one in anhydrous methanol is heated to the reflux temperature for 5 hours. After the solvent has been distilled off, the residue is recrystallised from diethyl ether. 116 g (82% of theory) of cis-2-oxa-4-aza-bicyclo[4.3.0]nonan-3-one (melting point: 56°-58° C.) are obtained.
