Procedure

To a solution of 5-(4-benzenesulfonyl-2-benzyloxyphenyl)-1,1-dioxo-1,2,5-thiadiazolidin-3-one potassium in CH2Cl2 (5 mL), cooled in an ice/salt bath, is added dropwise BBr3 (4.8 mL, 1M in CH2Cl2). The mixture is stirred for 30 min then is quenched with water, basified with potassium carbonate, and separated. The aqueous layer is washed with ether, then lyophilized, and purified by preparative HPLC to afford the title compound as an amorphous solid: mp=126-180° C.; 1H NMR (DMSO-d6) δ 10.89 (br s, 1H), 7.93 (d, J=7.0 Hz, 2H), 7.66 (m, 4H), 7.42 (m, 2H), 4.56 (s, 2H); (M−1)−=367.
