21.5 g (0.07 mol) of (±)-cis/trans-2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-chloro-3,3,4,4,4-pentafluoro-1-butenyl)-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid were dissolved in 150 ml of carbon tetrachloride, and 50 ml of thionyl chloride were added. The mixture was then warmed to 80° C. for 1 hour, while stirring. After distilling off the excess thionyl chloride and the solvent, the residue was distilled under a high vacuum. 21 g of (±)-cis/trans-2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-chloro-3,3,4,4,4-pentafluoro-1-butenyl)-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid chloride of boiling point 50°-54° C./0.3 mbar were obtained. ##STR10##
