Reaction Steps

A mixture of 2-(2-acetylguanidino)-4-[2-(2-cyano-3-methylguanidino)ethylthiomethyl]thiazole (13.6 mg.), methanol (1 ml.) and 0.2 N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (2 ml.) was stirred at room temperature for 20 minutes. This resulted in complete conversion to 2-guanidino-4-[2-(2-cyano-3-methylguanidino)ethylthiomethyl]thiazole, identical with the free base of the product obtained in Example 3. The free base had a m.p. 159°-162° C. on recrystallization from aqueous dimethylformamide.
