To a solution of (5-bromomethyl-3-methoxy-thiophen-2-yl)-methanol (0.6 g, 2.5 mmol) in anhydrous dichloromethane (10 mL) is added imidazole (0.516 g, 7.59 mmol) and tert-butylchlorodimethylsilane (0.412 g, 2.75 mmol) at 0° C. The reaction mixture is allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1 hour. The reaction mixture is quenched with water and concentrated. The residue is dissolved in DCM, washed with water (25 mL) and brine (25 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated to give the title compound (0.9 g). ESI/MS m/z (79Br/81Br) 351/353.1 [M+H]+.
