10.0 g methyl 4-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-3-oxo-butyrate are dissolved at 60° C. in 200 ml of ethanol and 1.94 g methylhydrazine are added. The reaction mixture is cooled and stirred further at ambient temperature. After 5 hours the precipitated substance is suction filtered and washed with ethanol. 7.91 g of the product are obtained as a powder.
