Reaction Steps

1 M hydrochloric acid (40 mL) was added to a solution of 3-({[tert-butyl(diphenyl)silyl]oxy}methyl)-6-(dimethoxymethyl)-2-methoxypyridine (5.47 g) in tetrahydrofuran (40 mL), and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for two hours. The reaction solution was poured into water, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and filtered. The solvent was then evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=5:1→1:1) to give 5-({[tert-butyl(diphenyl)silyl]oxy}methyl)-6-methoxypyridine-2-carbaldehyde (3.2 g, 73%) as a colorless oil.
