To the solution of (4-{[4-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]oxy}phenyl)methanol (3 g, 9.91 mmol) in DCM (90 mL), was added thionyl chloride (7.5 mL, 103 mmol) dropwise. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 h. After removing the solvent, the residue was dissolved in DCM, then washed with water twice, dried over Na2SO4. Concentration in vacuo afforded the title compound (2.8 g, 88% yield) as light brown oil. LCMS: rt=4.14 min
