To the solution of 2-{[4-fluoro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]oxy}-5-(hydroxymethyl)benzonitrile (700 mg, 2.249 mmol) in DCM (40 mL), was added thionyl chloride (2.462 mL, 33.7 mmol) dropwise. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 h. After removing the solvent, the residue was dissolved in DCM, then washed with water twice, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound (665 mg, 90% yield) as a light yellow solid.
