Reaction Steps
A mixture of [5-(4-hydroxy-phenoxy)-1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-isoindol-2-yl]-acetic acid ethyl ester (2.479 g, 7.26 mmol), 1-bromopropane (1.32 mL, 14.52 mmol), potassium carbonate (2.01 g, 14.52 mmol), and acetone (25 mL) was refluxed overnight. After cooling to ambient temperature the mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic phase was washed with saturated NaCl, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (2.485 g). 1H NMR (200 MHz, CDCl3): δ (ppm)=7.77 (q, 1H, J=8.1 Hz), 7.3-6.8 (m, 6H), 4.38 (s, 2H), 4.20 (q, 2H, J=7.0 Hz), 3.93 (t, 2H, J=6.4 Hz), 1.82 (q, 2H, 6.6 Hz), 1.28 (t, 3H, J=7.0 Hz), 1.06 (t, 3H, J=7.5 Hz).
